When a character casts a [[Sorcery|spell]], conjures a [[Divine Blessings and Rebukes|Blessing]], or performs some other type of magic, they may choose to spellburn. The character may sacrifice points of their Str, Dex, or Con to enhance their magic; for every 2 points expended, the level the magic is cast at increases by 1. Whenever a character spellburns, they roll [[Dark and Dangerous Magic|DDM]] with disadvantage.
> ### Example
>*Dannahym* is a 2nd level [[Magic User]] attempting to cast *[[Hellblast]].* He succeeds on his spellcasting check and decides to spellburn. His Str is 9, and he chooses to sacrifice 4 points to increase the level of his spell by 2. Instead of rolling 2d6 for the spell's damage, he rolls 4d6! However, he must roll [[Dark and Dangerous Magic|DDM]] at disadvantage; he rolls a 1 and 6 on his DDM die, triggering an effect. He then rolls 98 on the [[Dark and Dangerous Magic|DDM]] table, summoning an enraged *[[Balor]]*!
Attribute points lost to spellburn function the same as other lost attribute points (recovers on a Long Rest, may be healed on a Short Rest, etc.).
