The bleak isles of Middyr are home to a hardy clan-folk who have become feared far and wide for their coastal reaving. Millenia ago, Caldic colonists from [[Elgarde]] arrived in the storm-swept isles, but in time the Middyrians formed a society of their own centred around strength, honor, and the unity of the clan. They have made their homes on the isles' rugged coasts, stormy highlands, and misty locs, while venturing in mighty long ships to the mainland to raid hapless coastal settlements, pinning the scalps of those they defeat to the tartan kilts they proudly wear as badges of their clan allegiance. While many mainlanders have grown to dread the thunderous bagpipes that herald a tidesmen raid, so too have the Middyrians themselves, for their clans wage endless wars against one another in service of ancient rivalries. Despite this constant bickering, the Ards of Middyr's clans have occasionally been united common cause by a High King or Queen of the Isles, though these alliances have never lasted for long. Weakness is not tolerated anywhere in the isles, with all Middyrians being ceremonially drowned and resuscitated in honor of the sea goddess [[Myr|Moiré]] on their 15th name days by one of the Saewives, a mysterious order of wise [[Men|women]] who live apart from the clans in cloistered covens.
