Though most unmanish peoples have been forced to integrate into Runera's [[Men|Manfolk]] [[cultures]], some are still raised within enclaves where they are immersed in the original traditions of their [[Races|races]]. A [[Dwarves|dwarf]] born into a clan caravan or a banking family will have the *kocanje* of their clan carved into their skin once they come of age, and they will learn the lore and rivalries of their ancestors by pouring through the pages of the *khronilka*, an immense tome kept by the Clanmother detailing their clan's ancient history. A [[Halflings|halfling]] born to an isolated burrow-nest will spend their early years carving ringed *menhir* atop grassy hillocks, and foraging *[[Hwennen|hwennen]]* from nearby forests to be dried and smoked, so they might receive visions of the lost land of Skovarn. A [[Gnomes|gnome]] raised in a sewer-warren beneath a city might not see daylight or any [[Men|Manfolk]] for much of their life; they will instead spend their days sniffing out jewels for use in elaborate tail-jewellery, focusing lenses in contraptions, or decorations in their warren's Wall of Ghlar, which tells the history of their people through scent and not script. Despite the diversity of these backgrounds, they must all contend with the ever-encroaching tide of [[Men|Manfolk]] who often seek to wipe out their [[cultures]], either abruptly through violence and genocide, or slowly through attrition and assimilation.
