Gnomes, or Ghlaryn, are a skittish and secretive race who lived amongst [[Dwarves|dwarves]] and [[Elves|elves]] for centuries, but now hide in their sewer-warrens from the many who revile them. Gnomes are famed for their enormous, pointed noses, which grant them the unique ability to smell the presence of rare minerals and metals. They also possess long pointed ears and serpentine eyes with narrow pupils that dilate dramatically when their surroundings lighten or darken. Unlike [[Halflings|halflings]], gnomes can grow facial hair, though not as robustly as [[Dwarves|dwarves]]. Gnomes also have short, scaled tails like those of rats, and other parts of their skin are also similarly squamous, typically around their hands, feet, and backs. Gnomish teeth are long, yellow, and never stop growing; they are incredibly strong and can be used to break apart minerals and some metals. A gnome must frequently gnaw on suitably hard materials to prevent their overgrowth. Gnomes are fiercely protective of their strange culture and lore, but when not hiding in sewer-warrens beneath [[Men|Manfolk]] cities they will often work as jewelers or prospectors to make ends meet. Gnomes possess the following traits:
- **Age:** Gnomes can live upwards of four hundred years, with many managing to survive well into their second or third centuries by way of extreme caution and isolation.
- **Young-middle aged:** 16 + (1d6 x 1d8) years.
- **Old:** 80 + (1d10 x 1d12) years.
- **Size:** Gnomes are spindly and short, averaging 3 – 3.5 ft and 30 – 40 lbs.
- **Vermin:** You have Disadvantage on Cha checks (except Deception) made against non-gnomes.
- **Small:** You cannot wield large [[weapons]] such as greatswords, polearms, and long bows. You require two hands to use longswords or similar moderately sized [[weapons]] (they do not gain the usual +1 damage bonus for doing so, if applicable).
- **Nightsight:** You have better night vision than most [[Men|men]], but are just as blind in the absence of light.
- **Sewerfolk:** You gain Advantage on checks made to navigate through the underbellies of cities and towns.
- **Gem Cunning:** You gain Advantage on checks related to rare minerals and metals.
- **Jewel Biter:** You can bite through minerals and metals weaker than steel with your teeth. You can also use them as a natural [[Weapons|weapon]] that deals 1d4 damage and causes _[[Blade Trauma]]_ on a Nat 19.
- **A Glashtyn Nose:** You may make a Perc (Detection) check to sniff out rare minerals and metals within Far range.
